Alicia Silverstone was born on October 4, in San Francisco, California, the youngest of three children. She is the daughter of Didi Radford , a former flight attendant, and Monty Silverstone , a real estate investor. Her English-born father is from a Jewish family, while her Scottish-born mother converted to Judaism. Alicia's career began at the tender age of six, when her father took some photos of his young daughter, which eventually led to her getting several television commercials.

She has continued to act in film and television and on stage. Her first credited acting role was on The Wonder Years in , in the episode "Road Test", as Kevin's high school "dream girl". After seeing her in The Crush , Marty Callner decided Silverstone would be perfect for a role in a music video he was directing for Aerosmith, called " Cryin' "; she was subsequently cast in two more Aerosmith videos, " Amazing " and " Crazy ". These were hugely successful for both the band and Silverstone, making her a household name. In the film adaptation of the novel by Dean Koontz , Hideaway , she took on the role of the daughter of a man who dies in a car accident and is revived two hours later, and the film The Babysitter [5] was a B erotic thriller directed by Guy Ferland based on the eponymous short story by Robert Coover in his collection Pricksongs and Descants. In , she starred in the direct-to-video thriller True Crime as a Catholic school student searching for a murderer of teenage girls. Also in , the first movie by Silverstone's production company, Excess Baggage , was released. In the film, she plays a neglected young woman who stages her own kidnapping to get her father's attention, only to be actually kidnapped by a car thief. She's quite believable as a tough chick who's seen enough of life to give up on romance.
The 'Clueless' star admits it was tough growing up in the spotlight and whilst she enjoyed some parts of fame, she felt it was "completely unnatural" for someone so young. She said: "Being the most famous teenager in the world was uncomfortable, awkward and odd. There were good parts, too. I got to hang out with Bono in Ireland and go to a small private club with Mick Jagger. Or I could call up Woody Harrelson and go on a trip to Peru to save the rainforest together. Those things were nice, but the hard part was being a kid - I was really young - and it was completely unnatural.
